Unveiling an Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found numerous engaging creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: you only need a jump control. Across one hundred fifty challenges, encounter tough enemies and access a store to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.

Plan your movements carefully, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Jump on floating orbs to launch yourself to new heights, navigate crumbling ledges, and touch switches to reveal new areas. Collect currency and use them on tougher levels in which things intensifies.

In terms of design, the experience shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing background music. The simple graphics of morphing geometric shapes could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's hard to think of similar titles where you are a piece of feces, video games often featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on PC on November 19.
