One teenage youth was discovered deceased just days after being falsely blamed of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The investigation heard how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The message added: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that the property was never taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed stolen ashes generated online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she said.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that a young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Response

The hearing heard from school personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called the family's parents' landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his family said they never got that communication.

Official Finding

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his questioning he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to determine his intent."
